Hello Everyone,

I've owned my 2X SUV for three months now and it's getting cold here in Canada now. we had -32 this morning and I've noticed that under medium acceleration I'm getting what sounds like a very loud ABS event from the rear end of the vehicle. It comes and goes and it much louder if I lift the vehicle to the first raised point above normal. The noise is present until the temp warms to above -20 and it goes away.
At first I thought it was ice and snow build up but after there wasn't anything there when I checked. Anyone else having this noise issue?

Thanks,

I've noticed some unusual motor noises as well coming from my Hummer EV when it's cold outside. It seems to be making a humming or whirring sound.

I did some research, and it seems like this might be normal for electric vehicles in cold weather. Things like the battery preheating, cooling fans, and even the gear shift mechanism can make some extra noise when it's cold.

I checked my owner's manual, but it wasn't super specific about this.

Should I be worried? No, unless the noise is unusual and it has reduced range or sluggish acceleration.

That might just be the normal pipped in motor noise which you can turn off depending on drive mode or customization. This to me sounds like the motors are cogging when temps drop below -20c. Very strange and loud, I noticed it on a 3 motor last year and now on my 2 motor SUV.
As soon as the temp goes above -15 or so the noise is completely gone.

I think that might be normal especially during cold weather. Have you tried asking your dealer about it?

Yes they installed the GM recording devices on the motors as they did hear the noise when I took them for a test drive but when they went out the temp had gone above -20c and the noise instantly goes away. All week we have had higher -4 to +5 temps and no noise smooth as silk. This noise permeates from the front and rear of the vehicle and again I heard the same noise on a three motor I drove for a while last winter. We drop down to -42C in the winters and that is without the wind chill factor hate to think how loud this will be then.
